Lorde has debuted a new Melodrama track titled “Sober” at the singer’s surprise pre-Coachella gig Friday night, her first full concert in nearly three years. On Friday, Lorde tweeted that she would play Pioneertown, California‘s Pappy & Harriet – where Paul McCartney similarly staged a between-Desert Trips show in October 2016 – for 300 fans at her first full-length gig since July 2014,“I feel like the nice thing about a night like this is there’s so few of us, we can do whatever we want,” she said after playing several Pure Heroine tracks. “So I wanna try something that no one knows about yet”.
Lorde’s 10-song warm-up show leaned heavily on her Pure Heroine material, including hits “Royals” and “Team,” her “Magnets” collaboration with Disclosure and three songs from the upcoming Melodrama, “Sober,” “Green Light” and “Liability,” which Lorde previously premiered on Saturday Night Live,Following Coachella, Lorde has also lined up slots at Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, Governors Ball and the New Orleans Jazz Fest.
