Atlanta-bred viral rap sensation Lil Yatchy recently teamed up with the California girl Katy Perry to remix her pop single “Chained to the Rhythm,” which originally featured none other than Bob Marley’s grandson, Skip Marley.
Yachty’s approach is everything you’d expect from Lil Boat. There’s plenty of un-ironic autotune crooning, freshly re-imagined production that takes a down-tempo approach to what was once an upbeat dance track, and of course there’s an “I love you Katy!,” shouted straight from the teenager’s racing heart.
Oh, and for those who are still upset with Yachty for his comment about never having listened to a Biggie song, there’s good news – he may have accidentally found a parallel. “I went from readin’ magazines to being on the cover,” he crows on the track. Sure, it’s no, “It was all a dream / I used to read Word Up! magazine,” but it’s something.
