Nigerian Music Artistes That Could Make Their Mark in 2016


The Nigerian music industry is one of the fastest growing in the world. The truth about its ascendency and the global recognition is no fairy tale! Nigerian artistes like D banj, Nneka, Wizkid, Ice Prince, Davido, Wizkid but to mention a few have emerged as global brands.

The keen competition among superstars doesn’t exempt our local music heroes. It may even be said that competition is more intense among up and coming musicians than it is among the superstars. Looking at 2015, very few would have anticipated Ycee, Adekunle Gold, Pepenzi and Simi to grab their spot among the elite of the industry.

2016 is far from being spent but due to the signs of progress seen in these artistes, we came up with a list of artistes who could make their mark in 2016. From melodious hooks, highly infectious verses to practically genre-less music genius, these music acts are possibly the most eclectic bunch dropping songs. Catch up to the future with our list of 11 artists that we feel may have a major impact in years to come.


BOLO J: Bolo J Black Blackson is a Nigerian music artist based in South Africa. Bolo J keep making his fans happy with steady back to back hit, after the release of the most talked about song featuring South Africa Music Group Uhuru titled Wont Ur Love, which had been trending for the past one week. Bolo J dropped the Video for Looking Fresh, the video was Directed by Godfather and shot in South Africa.


LUCYPaul Okoye of P-Square has signed a female artist called Lucy to RudeBoy Recordz, which also houses Muno. The gifted singer officially made her debut into the Nigerian music scene  with a single titled “Special Driver, produced by Christ String and written by Paul Okoye.  Download her song here



Sugar boyG-Worldwide Entertainment’s recording artiste SUGARBOY released his first official single, since being signed to the label. The track titled “Hola Hola” is a mid-tempo afrobeat reggae tune that will definitely get listeners singing along.  This is a good follow-up to his last two collaborative projects with fellow label mates Kiss Daniel and DJ Shabsy on the massive hit “Raba”, and with Kiss Daniel on “Molue”. J-Baba: J-baba real name Okonkwo Onyebuchi Joseph is a Nigerian Afro Pop Singer and songwriter. J-baba dropped a song titled Linda in 2015 and has teamed up with ace producer DJ Coublon on a new love tune tagged Falling for You. Falling for You sees J Baba proclaim his love to Omoge as he pleads for her not to turn him down with promises that her demands will definitely be met. We believe he has alot to give to his ever increasing fans. J-Baba is managed by Evergreen Future Entertainment.

Snippsy: Born (Ndifreke Obong) who is based in Abuja, has been impressing his fans for quite some time with songs such as Oh My Baby, Ikede, Yoko and Virus Feat. Burna BoySNIPPSY bagged his first award for his single Oh My Baby as song of the year at the annual AmmAward held in Abuja barely a year into his career.  Kuddiboi Music (KBM) star recently dropped a fresh hit titled ‘Follow Me’. It is yet another hit single that proves that Snippsy is a true talented music artiste and one to watch out for this year.



Imanse: Imanse is a a prolific songwriter that has written several songs for a Broadway play in Maryland in the US “No Limit” which was a huge success. Imanse pushes the boundaries with her music and showcases her smooth and clear voice with her boastful theatrical music background. She recently released the video to the remix of her single Gbona which featured Falz. Imanse also has songs such as TodayAdupe{ife Ti De}



Prince JEmmanuel Joshua popularly known as “PRINCE J” is a 20year old talented sensational singer, song writer and entertainer with an unquenchable desire for great achievement. His style of music varies, all infused with African flavor! He’s officially signed to E.M.A Entertainment,we presents to you a new single by Prince J.

His first official single “Shoutout” is a certified party-banger to sing-along, that will definitely move your heart to dance as you will unconsciously sing the chorus in your head (Produced by Ace Producer Dj-Coubulon), This is just a teaser of great things to come from Prince J.

MVP: Born Idowu Samson Oluwadamilare, MVP is the third of three male children. This third year student of the University of Lagos is a Rapper, writer and music enthusiast.

MVP burst unto the rap music scene when he won the Snap Tv’s Campus Discovery in his first year in Unilag. He became a regular feature on Laylow production’s raptitude as a result.
As a member of a 3 man crew that included Mavin’s Reekado Banks and Jaybreeze, he won the BlackBerry® first Campus Supercrew competition in Lagos. His musical journey has included several blockbuster cover tracks like Big Sean’s Clique and Tyga’s Rack City that featured YBNL’s Lil’Kesh and Maphian. Their version was called “Mad City” and it quickly became a street anthem which got crazy buzz on radio. With several other works on web and many more in the works MVP is fast becoming a household name amongst music lovers.

The Microphone Killer MVP teamed up with love crooner Toby Grey and Omo Alhaji, Ycee on his Tush. This joint is super dope and we could not help but add MVP to this list.

Pearls: Pearl Ashu Onome Azanor better known as Pearls is a Nigerian/Cameroonian captivating singer, song writer and actress noted for her sonorous inspired voice and dance skills that is so passionate in mesmerizing the general audience in the music world.

Her first single Watch Me and couple of other songs were debuted with Red House studio in Seoul, South Korea 2013. The following year she released her first video Watch Me with JR ENT in South Korea, having performed with various live bands in Nigeria. South Korea and Cameroun. On returning back from Seoul she dropped a hit single in Lagos titled Sukus in 2015.

Princess Vitarah: Princess Vitarah is bold. She’s on the streets of Los Angeles in a white crop top, high waist denim jeans boasting and rhyming about her kitty kat in her new music video. Watching and listening to her music video ‘Nigerian pussy’, it’s no surprise that she’s gone viral. On the song she spat bars about her privates and it being better than that of other women.

Muno: Paul Okoye, one half of super group P-Square decided to jump into the executive seat by signing artist Muno to his newly formed Rudeboy Records. Truth be told, Muno is no fluke as the tracksNever Regret” & “Slow Slow which features Paul Okoye are well crafted. MUNO is not a new comer when he comes to making big tunes , A fantastic song writer singer and composer . Muno (Oriero Oviemuno) started singing from an early age and has been in three different music group since then. A graduate of building and Technology at Covenant university Ota.

Looks like Paul’s guidance coupled with Muno’s talent can rack in more smash hits.
