J. Cole releases his new album, KOD. With less than 48 hours to go, the Fayetteville, North Carolina rapper has unveiled the album’s artwork and tracklist.

J. Cole has twice gone platinum with albums sans featured guest appearances. For KOD, the only credited guest is “Kill Edward,” whose identity is unclear.

Cole’s social media activity signaled something was afoot earlier this week. Then, just as articles were being written saying that exact thing, Cole confirmed that his fifth studio album would be out April 20. He also gifted fans with a surprise show at Gramercy Theatre in New York City. During the event, Cole played fans the entire album.

Lucky attendees were able to hear first, there are some details from the session that reveal a lot about Cole’s forthcoming studio LP. According to attendees, the project has three meanings, which are Kids on Drugs, King Overdose and Kill Our Demons.

While Cole reportedly asked fans and attendees to try and keep details from the listening session a secret, many have been sharing what they experienced during the event at Gramercy Theatre on social media, giving us a heads up on what to expect

Cole played the entire album in full, which reportedly has about 10-12 tracks, but only revealed the name of his final record, “1985.” The song apparently introduces listeners to another project, but so far, he hasn’t provided details on that potential project. There are some tracklists surfacing throughout the Internet, but sources claim that they are fake.

Smokepurpp previously claimed that he has a verse on Cole’s new album, and reiterated his statements in an Instagram post yesterday (April 16). Fans at the event say they did not hear any other guests on the project other than Cole. While it could be another case of trolling from Purpp, we won’t know for sure until Friday.

KOD is J. Cole’s fifth full-length studio album and follows 2016’s 4 Your Eyez Only.
